Poet and writer. She was born in Samsun/Turkey. She spent her childhood in a small town due to her father’s duties as a regional manager of agricultural credit cooperative. She grew up with a strict family discipline. She is the eldest of four siblings.

Her passion for poetry and books started in her childhood. When she read her first poem, she was not even tall enough to reach the pulpit. She preferred to be active in school activities.  She presented school programs throughout her education life.

The poet, who resided in Ordu/Turkey for a long time, conducted her business on books and stationery, and also had poetry conversations with those who devoted themselves to literature.

She was the editor of some literary magazines.   She was the editor-in-chief of « Edebiyat Sokağı » magazine, which she published with a few colleagues. She was a columnist for about three years.

Ümit Zeynep Kayabaş has been living in Paris for about thirteen years and organizes events to promote Turkish culture in France.

Her poems were published in many literary magazines such as « Yedi İklim, Dergâh, Hece, Bir Nokta, Mühür, Mor Toka and Yolcu. »

The poet, who defends the priority of meaning in poetry and draws attention to the weight of imagery, published her article on this subject in Hece magazine.

Her prose writings appeared in newspapers and magazines such as Milli Gazete and Virgül. Kayabaş, whose poems have been translated into French and Dutch, has published three poetry books to date.

She has special studies on family and women.

She is the mother of a son.
