Poet (b. 1371?,
Kütahya - d. 1431?). His real name was Yusuf Sinaneddin. He lived during the
reign of Murad I, Yıldırım Beyazıt and Murad II. He began his education in
Kütahya and then went to
In Harname (Book of the Ass), which is a
small-sized couplet poem of 126 staves, he tells about the misfortune of a
donkey that lost his ears whilst admiring the horns of the ox, and thus told
the misfortune of his fanciful dreams in a humorous story. Şeyhî left a fine
example of satirical literary work when he told his story. Praised by his
contemporaries and successors as “Şeyhü'ş-Şuarâ” (The Sheikh of Poets), Şeyhî
became one of the master poets of Divan* literature, with his odes, eulogies
and couplet poems.
