Poet and writer (b. 26 March 1965, Şahseven village, Kündemir, Azerbaijan). He attended elementary school at the Köhnebazar (Eskipazar) village in 1974 and began to work at the Kündemir City Electric Network. In 1981, he graduated from Baku State University, Department of Philosophy and completed his doctorate studies at the same department with the thesis “Azerbaycan Tiyatrosunda Karakter Problemi” (The Problem of Characters in Azerbaijani Theater) in 1984 and became a lecturer. In 1997, he became a professor after completing his thesis titled “M. Emin Resulzade'nin Hayatı ve Edebi Faaliyeti” (The Life and Literary Works of M. Emin Resulzade).

Vakıf Sultanlı was engaged in social activities and was elected as a correspoendent member of the Society for Freedom and of the Society for Free Europe in the United States between 1995 and 1999. After 1995, he served as the editorial columnist of the Polish reviews Hudaferin and Araz and as the Azerbaijani representative to the Turnalar review which was published in Turkey.

He embarked on literature at a very early age. His early works were published in his years at the university. He wrote tens of works in the genres of poetry, short story and novel. He was interested in artistic creativity and theory of artistic aesthetics and wrote four monographs. Many works of him were published in Turkey and Russia; and he participated in international meetings in Turkey, Ukraine, Poland and the United Kingdom and presented communiqués on Azerbaijani literature.

Besides his translations from Western literature, he also translated the Değirmen (Mill) from Reşat Nuri Güntekin and the Rubailer (Rubai’s*) from Feyyaz Sağlam. His own works were also translated into many languages around the world and received the Writers Union of Azerbaijan M. Zerrabi Award and the Cyprus Balkans Eurasia Turkish Literature Institution’s International Award for Eminent Services to Turkish Language. He is a member of the Cyprus Balkans Eurasia Turkish Literature Institution’s.
