Ebü’l-Hasen Alî b. Sehl Rabben et-Taberî, İbn-i Rabben Taberî

Physician (B. ? , Merv – D. After 247/861) His full name was Ebü’l Hasen Alî b. Sehl Rabben et-Taberî, he was known as İbn-i Rabben Taberî, though. It is not know exactly when he was born and when he died, but we know that it is Merv where he was born. He was trained by his father who himself was a physician, too. He learnt Greek, Syriac, Arabic and Hebrew. Ebü’l Hasan Ali who was interested in particularly medicine and science took philosophy and astronomy lessons as well. Having completed his education, he became a physician at Merv. He had resided in Baghdad to learn science. In 839 he went to Samarra and resumed his works in the care of Abbasid Caliph there. Taberî who was one of the first scholars to do comparative studies on religious served as a model for the next generations with his works on medicine and pharmacology. Ebû Bekr Râzî spoke highly of him in his works and also he quoted from his works about medicine and pharmacology.
