Attila
Manizade was born in Cyprus. He began his musical education while studying
architecture at the Istanbul Technical University. Following his graduation
from the Istanbul Technical University Conservatory, he continued his musical
studies in Germany and specialized in German Opera under the direction of Prof.
A. Mayer.
Upon
his return to Istanbul in 1960, Manizade made his debut at the opening night of
the Istanbul State Opera, and became the leading bass soloist of the Opera. In
the 1980′s he was the Artistic Director and General Manager of the Istanbul
State Opera and Ballet. In addition to his concerts and performances, Manizade
is a distinguished member of the State Conservatory at Istanbul Technical
University.
Attila
Manizade is critically acclaimed not only for his exceptional vocal range and
ability, but also for his uniquely dramatic interpretations. Widely praised as
an artist of great versatility, he has an extensive repertoire of more than
forty operas ranging from dramatic roles to buffo parts.
Attila
Manizade has performed Osmin with an international cast at the Istanbul
International Festival since its inception at in 1973 through 1995 and in many
festivals in Europe. He has also performed with great success in many capitals
and principal cities throughout the world. In 1998 he received the title of
State Artist from the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism. As of today, he
teaches at the State Conservatory.
Apart
from performing such dramatic roles such as King Phillip (Don Carlos), Attila,
Zaccaria (Nabuco), Silva (Ernani), Mephistopheles (Faust), Salieri (Mozart and
Salieri), Rocco (Fidelio), Attila Manizade also performed such buffo roles as
Don Pasquale, Don Basilio (Barber of Seville), Mustafa (An Italian Girl in
Algeria), Figaro (Marriage of Figaro), Leporello (Don Giovanni), and Osman
(Abduction from Seraglio).
His
best known role, namely Osman in The Abduction from the Seraglio won him
international acclaim; he performs this role every year at the famous
International Arts Festival in its original setting of the Topkapi Palace in
Istanbul.
Attila
Manizade's extensive repertoire includes works of Verdi, Beethoven, and Adran
Saygun. He gave concerts in many countries including: England, Turkey, North
Cyprus, Germany, Sweden, Belgium, Denmark, France, Italy, Yugoslavia,
Macedonia, Hungary, Poland, Czechoslovakia, Romania, Bulgaria, Latvia,
Azerbaijan, Belarus, Russia, Egypt, USA, and Peoples Republic of China.
