Abdullah Satoğlu

Poet and writer (b. 15 May 1934, Kayseri). He used the pen name İsmetî in some of his poems and Bülent Müşker in some of his articles. He was the son of Hoca Mehmet Ali Satoğlu, a scholar in Kayseri. He graduated from the İstanbul School of Journalism. He published the daily political newspaper Hakimiyet and the monthly literary review Filiz for fifteen years from 1956. In 1970, he moved his business to Ankara to establish the As Printing House. He is a member of the Writers Union of Turkey, the Musical Work Owners Society of Turkey, the Journalists Association and the Professional Association of Scientific and Literary Work Owners of Turkey.

Known as the “Tulip Poet" in the artistic media, Abdullah Satoğlu's first poem Erciyes'e (To Erciyes), was published in Kayseri Halkevi Dergisi in 1949. His later poems and articles were published in the reviews Orkun, Türk Sanatı, Erciyes, Filiz, Boğaziçi, Çağrı, Gülpınar, Bahçe, Türk Edebiyatı, Millî Kültür and Türk Dili. He received the Kayseri Artists Association Folklore Award in 1982 and the Service to Turkish Culture Award of the Folklore Association in 1996. Bearer of a permanent press card, Abdullah Satoğlu has participated in several national and international meetings and presented communiqués. His book Bir Demet Lale (A Bunch of Tulips) was translated into Arabic (1996). Some of his poems have been set to music in Turkish classical music compositions. He participated in the international meeting “The Merbid Poetry Evenings” in Baghdad in 1996. A street in Kayseri was named “Şair Şatoğlu Street” after him.
