Poet and writer (b. 1947, Siverek / Urfa). He attended
primaryand secondary school in Siverek and Diyarbakır (1964). He completed his
university education, which he had started in the Faculty of Political
Sciences, in England
by winning a scholarship. He began to work as an assistant at Bursa University,
Faculty of Economical and Social Sciences (1978), after he had done his
bachelor’s degree and master’s at Manchester and
Bath Universities
(United Kingdom).
He did his doctorate at İstanbul
University, Faculty of
Economics. While he was working as an assistant professor at Bursa Uludağ
University, he was
appointed Assistant Undersecretary at the Ministry of Education, Sport and
Youth (1986) and in 1988 to undersecretary of the same ministry. At the end of
1989 he left this post and he began to work as an academician at Gazi University,
Faculty of Economical and Administrative Sciences. In 1992 he became a
professor.
In addition to his duties as
undersecretary, he was a member of the Turkish Council of Higher Education for
four years (1987-1991). When Sezal, who was also board member and Vice
President of the UNESCO National Committee, was Chair of Gazi University,
Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, Department of Public
Administration he became Director of Başkent University, Institute of Social
Sciences (1995).
His first poem was published in Orkun
review in 1963. From 1964 to 65 his poems and articles were published in the
review Demokrasiye Güven (Diyarbakır).
In addition to these, his poem and other works were published in Fikir ve Sanat'ta Hareket (1967-77), Diriliş (1970), Defne (1966-67), Adımlar (1968-70), Orkun, Yol, Argos, Türk Edebiyatı and Dergâh reviews. His articles have
appeared in Türkiye Aile Ansiklopedisi (The Turkish Family Encyclopedia)
of which he was also editor. He is still Chairman of the UNESCO Club and member
of the Fulbright Management Committee and the Sociology Association.
