Philosopher and poet (b. 4 October 1936, İstanbul). She attended Zapyon Greek High School (1954) and graduated from İstanbul University, Faculty of Literature, Department of Philosophy (1959). She completed her doctorate studies in 1965 and began to give lectures at Erzurum University, which she later continued at Ankara Hacettepe University. She received her doctorate degree in 1965. She became an associate professor (1970) and then a professor (1978) at the same university. She has been the Head of the Department of Philosophy at Hacettepe University since 1969, and the Director of the Research and Application Center for Human Rights and Philosophy and the Chair of UNESCO at the same university since July 1997.

She is a member of the Turkish Association of Philosophy (chairwoman since 1979), the Institution for Research of Classical Period, the Turkish Association for Social Sciences, the UNESCO Nation Commission to Turkey, the executive board of the German Cultural Center, the Turkish Association of the United Nations, the Kemalist Thought Association and the Economic and Social Foundation of Turkey. She is the Undersecretary of Human Rights at the Office of the Prime Ministry and the Chairwoman of the Turkish Ethical Commission of Human Rights.

She received the Goethe Medal (1966), an Honorary Doctorate of Philosophy from Crete University (1966), the Turkey Academy of Sciences Award (1996), the Achievement in Science Award from Hacettepe University (1994-1995 and 1995-1996), the World Friendship Union’s Mevlana Yüce Foundation Award and the 75 Republican Women Award given by the review Mimoza (1998).

Her articles have been published in the reviews Deneme (1967), Toplumcu Düşün (1978), Toplum ve Bilim (1981), Türk Dili, Hacettepe Sosyal ve Beşeri Bilimler Dergisi, Amme İdaresi Dergisi, Toplumcu Düşün, Toplum ve Bilim, Çağdaş Düşünce, Sağlık ve Toplum, Lucerna, İnsancıl, Anadolu Sanat, Türkiye Felsefe Kurumu Bülteni in Turkey and in various collaborative works.

POETRY: She published a poetry book in Greek (Turkish name: Perdenin Arkası - Behind the Curtain, 1962).

In addition, she has translated many works.
