Linguist. He was born on April 20, 1947 in Eskişehir. He is the husband of Philosopher Prof. Dr. Betül Çotuksöken. He also used the pseudonym Yılmaz Oğuz. He graduated from Pendik High School (1965) and Istanbul University, Faculty of Literature, Department of Turkish Language and Literature (1970). His thesis for completion:Kitbag fi Riyazati’l-Hayl.”

He worked as literature teacher at Private Darüşşafaka High School (1971-1977) and Private Saint Joseph High School (1977-1981); as Turkish lecturer at Istanbul University, Vocational School of Foreign Languages (1981-1988), as Turkish Language Unit coordinator at Beykent University (1998-2003) and as lecturer, chair and rector’s consultant at Maltepe University, Department of Turkish Language and Literature (2003 -).

His essays and reviews were published in journals and newspapers such as Cumhuriyet, Güneş gazeteleri ile Gösteri, Günümüzde Kitaplar, Türk Dili, Varlık, Milliyet Sanat, Çağdaş Eleştiri, and Journal of Turkish Studies-Türklük Bilgisi Araştırmaları. He wrote articles for encyclopedias such as Meydan Larousse, Gelişim Hachette, Türkiye 1923 / 1973, Türk Dili ve Edebiyatı. He has also conducted studies on program development for teaching Turkish to foreigners and about the methods of learning Turkish and literature. He has considered and reviewed the Turkish dictionaries and spelling dictionaries along with the problems faced. He tried to reveal the richness of words in Turkish with the dictionaries he published. He has also contributed to the studies of localizing the scientific terms. He wrote several articles warning about the mistakes being done about the speaking, writing, sentence-building, logical order of Turkish and also about the attitude to be taken against the intense flow of foreign words. He received Truva Folklore Association Folklore Award with his book named Nasrettin Hoca Fıkraları (1996). He participated as the responsible person for Turkish literature in Cumhuriyet Dönemi Türkiye Ansiklopedisi, Memo Larousse, Thema Larousse and in Axis 2000; and as the member of writers’ board in Arkadaş Büyük Türkçe Sözlük. He is a member of Turkish Linguistic Association (1978-1983), Language Association, Association for Child and Teenage Literature Researchers (ÇİKEDAD).
