İbrahim Tatlıses

Singer, actor and producer. He was born in Şanlıurfa on January 1, 1952. His real name is İbrahim Tatlı. He couldn’t attend any schools because he began to work at early ages. However he completed primary education through distance education and got his primary school diploma from Kilis Kartalbey Primary School in 1976. Because of his beautiful voice, he attended sira nights (T.N. In Turkish: Sıra gecesi-traditional musical gathering at night).At his fifteen, he began amateur cassette recording in Urfa, Elazığ and nearby cities. He took to the stage at various music halls first in Adana then in Ankara. His beautiful voice became notorious through his audience. At the end of the 1970s, he began to take to the stage in Istanbul. There he met Yılmaz Tatlıses, who gave him his surname. His professional career in music began with his 45-rpm records such as Kara Kız and Beni Yakma Gel Sevdiğim. Then he released many albums including songs Kapıyı Çalan Kimdir, Niye Çattın Kaşlarını, Olmaz Olsun, Maden Dağı, De get Bayburt, Hadice, Eyvallah, Kurban Olam Ben O Kaşı Karaya, Tükendi Nakt-i Ömrüm, Zeyno, Seven Bahtiyar Olmaz, Erzurum Dağı'nda, Ayağında Kundura, Doyulur mu, Sevdim de Sevilmedim, İnan Arkadaş, Züleyha and Ağlama Cananım thus becoming famous all around the country. He also released the songs he performed in Urfa and nearby cities while he was an amateur. Among those, the most known are Veremli Kız, Batsın Bu Dünya, Huzurum Kalmadı, Yağmurun Sesine Bak ve Neden Saçların Beyazlamış Arkadaş

He became famous with Ayağında Kundura he performed in Kınalı Pavyon in Ankara in 1974 and first appeared in Ankara Radio and then in a television show in the New Year’s Day. He worked with Arif Sağ and Orhan Gencebay in 1977 and released an album in which he re-performed Ayağında Kundura. He embarked on his film career with Ayağında Kundura-Ceylan in 1978. In 1990s, his fame spread through Greece and Middle East and he became a candidate of the Genç Party (T.N. Young Party) in the July 27^th, 2007 General Elections in Turkey, however Genç Party could not overcome the election threshold of 10%, which further resulted in him not being elected. He now has a lot of companies in various industries such as bus management, gas station, kebab-lahmacun restaurant chain, Tatlises Radio and TV, Tourist Hotels. He has earned many golden record award and numerous awards.

His first marriage was to Adalet Durak and they have three children. In 1979 he met Perihan Savaş when he had acted in film Kara Yazma. He had one daughter, Melek Zübeyde from that relation but it lasted until the film Günah in 1983 because he met Derya Tuna, his third wife and he had a son İbrahim (İdo) from that marriage. In 2011 he was attacked and was wounded seriously by a headshot. While he was staying in hospital, he married Ayşegül Yıldız.
