Sociologist (b. 1934, Boyabat / Sinop). He attended primary and elementary school in Sinop and graduated from Istanbul University, Faculty of Literature, Department of Philosophy (1957) and from Cambridge University, Faculty of Biology, Department of Psychology (1960). He obtained his doctorate degree at İstanbul University, Chair of Experimental Psychology in 1964.

He conducted various studies at Köln University, Institute of Sociological Research between 1972-1974 and at Bern University, Department of Pedagogical Psychology in 1978 on a scholarship from Alexander von Humboldt, and at Oregon University, Laboratory of Cognitive Psychology between 1980-1981, on a Fullbright scholarship. He served as the dean of the Faculty of Education at Selçuk University between 1982-1988 then he returned to İstanbul University, Faculty of Literature.
