Writer (b. 28 January 1946, Gelibolu / Çanakkale). She attended Ankara
Mimar Kemal Primary School (1957) and graduated from Çamlıca High School for
Girls (1963), Istanbul University, Faculty of Literature, Department of German
Language and Literature (1973). Her masters thesis was “Ferit Edgü’de
Kafkaesk Öğe” (The Kafkaesque Element in Ferit Edgü - 1983) and her PhD
thesis “Oğuz Atay ve Max Frisch’de Aydın Sorunsal”ı (The Intellectual
Problematic in Oğuz Atay and Max Frisch, 1987). For a few years she worked as a
translator in the German Employment Agency’s Liaison Office in İstanbul
(1969-70), and in some other private institutions and in the Confederation of
Workers Unions of Turkey (1971-80). In 1980, she was accepted as an academician
to the Academy of Ankara Economic and Commercial Studies. In 1986, she was
transferred with the same office to Ankara University, Faculty of Language,
History and Geography, Department of German Language and Literature. She became
an assistant professor in 1988, associate professor in 1990 and professor in
1996. She retired in 2000. She is a member of the Union of Germanic and Turkish Authors Association.
Her first article was published in Yaşasın Edebiyat (1987, winter
issue). Later on, she had her articles published in the newspaper supplement Cumhuriyet
Kitap and in some reviews such as Gündoğan Edebiyat, Varlık, Gösteri,
Littera and Oluşum. She continued with her studies, which were
chiefly on German literature, then after as in contrast to Turkish literature.
Recently, her field of interest has shifted completely to avant-garde Turkish
literature, especially the 70’s and after.
