Journalist and writer (b. 1894,
Konya - d. 20 August 1984, Konya). He attended Konya Yıkık District School. Later he
studied at Prosperity of Prayer School and graduated from Madrasah Muslim
School. He attended the Railroad School, which was established in İzmir at the
beginning of World War I. Having worked on the building of the Baghdad Railway
and worked as Station Master at Batum Railway Station, he started to work as a
journalist by firstly publishing a review named Hakyolu in Konya. His later articles were published in journals
such as İntibah, Son Posta, Vatan, Van,
Yedigün, Maşrık-ı İrfan, Tercüman-ı Hakikat and İleri. He also introduced the reviews Tarih Hazinesi and Tarih
Dünyası to the literary world. He used the pen name Atis for a period of
time in his articles. He served in the Office of the Chief of Canonical and
Religious Affairs, and was among the founders of the Military Museum, the
Turkish Arts Museum and the Arts Museum Foundation.
His struggles in
the protection of cultural heritage such as preventing sale of the historical
documents to Bulgarians in 1931 and preventing leaving the treasure of the
Topkapı Palace to the Americans as pledge are quite interesting. He donated his
archives consisting of books, photographs and documents to "İbrahim Hakkı Konyalı Library and
Archives" he founded in the Palace of Selim II, which is located next to
Üsküdar Selimiye Mosque. He received the “Award for Excelent Service” from the
Ministry of Culture and honorary rank of doctor from Konya Selçuk University
for his success in the field of cultural studies. He has got more than one
hundred works.
