Writer (b. 18 November 1944, Kuruçeşme / İstanbul). Her full name is Filiz Tansu. Sami Karayel (1890-1948), father of her mother was one of the pre-eminent journalists of his time. She attended the Sarıyer Elementary School, the Ata College (1964), and graduated from Istanbul University, Faculty of Literature, Department of Philosophy (1972). She completed her master studies at the Research and Applying Center of Woman Problems of the Institute of Social Sciences at İstanbul University (1995-1997). Her thesis was "Cumhuriyet Dönemi Erkek Yazınında Kadın Kimlikleri" (Female Identities in the Male Literature of the Republican Period). This thesis was published as a book with the title Erkek Yazınında Kadın (Woman in Man's Literature), and was awarded by the Ministry of Culture in the contest of 75th Anniversary of the Republic. She did not work as a teacher; but mostly engaged in writing. She is a member of the Writers Syndicate of Turkey (also a member of the executive board for some time), Turkish Union of Authors, the Association of Children Publications, the PEN Association of Writers, the Association of Writers of Literary and Scientific Works, the Association in Support of Contemporary Living, and the Association of Woman Researches.

Her first essay (Has Bahçenin Gül Ağacı - The Rose Tree in the Royal Garden) was published in September 1984, and first story (Ah Benim Bir Başıma İstanbul Kadınlığım - Oh My Womanhood Alone in İstanbul) in June 1984, in the review Sanat Olayı. Her other essays and some poems were published in the reviews and newspapers Sanat Olayı (1984-87), Varlık (1987-89, 95), In vivo (1989-90), Gösteri (1991), Bakış (1991), Biçem (1992), Kıyı (1988-96), Karşı (1990-94), İnsancıl (1991), Türk Dili (1994-), Cumhuriyet Kitap, Eşik (1994), Detay (1994-95), Gerçek Sanat (1996), Kitap Gazetesi (1996), Cumhuriyet (1995-96), Milliyet Sanat (1996), Kadın Araştırmaları Dergisi (1995), Bilim ve Ütopya (1998) and Eski (2001).

Two of her four children's plays, one of which was published, were staged by the Society of Supporting Contemporary Life. In the context of the activities of the Children's Club of the Association in Support of Contemporary Living, of which she is a member, she gave speeches about "actualizing philosophy" at primary schools and universities. She ranked first at the Sanat Olayı Review's Short Story Award in 1984 with her story Ah Benim Bir Başıma İstanbul Kadınlığım (Oh My Womanhood Alone in İstanbul), second at the Turkish Aeronautical Association Short Story Award in 1991 with her story Masalcı (Fable-Teller), the achievement award by the Ministry of Culture in the branch of criticism at the contest of Works of 75th Anniversary of the Republic in 1998 with her book Erkek Yazınında Kadın (Woman in Man's Literature), and first at the Eyüboğlu Culture and Arts Foundation's Sabahattin Eyüboğlu Essay Contest in 2003 with her book Ağır Dünya (The Heavy World).
