Artist (B. 1857, Üsküdar / Istanbul - D. 1930, Üsküdar /
Istanbul). His father, Üsküdarlı Mehmet Rüştü Bey of the cavalry majors, was at
the same time a calligraphy master. He took painting lessons from Nuri Pasha,
Miralay Süleyman Seyit Bey and a foreign teacher called Monsieur Kes when he
entered the Harbiye Mektebi (
Hodja Ali Rıza Bey, presided the Ottoman Painters
Association which was established in 1909 for a while. After his retirement
from his post in Harbiye in 1911, he worked as an art teacher in schools like
Sanayi-i Nefise Mektebi (Faculty of Fine Arts), Çamlıca İnas Sultanisi (Çamlıca
Kız High School), Erkek Ameli Hayat Mektebi (Boys Art School). He gave charcoal
drawing and water color painting lessons to the students among which there was
the famous artist and scientist A. Süheyl Ünver at Medresetu’l Hattatîn.
Hodja Ali Riza had many works in watercolor, oil color,
charcoal painting as etude, chars and as paintings. The most famous ones among
them are the paintings that he put even the smallest details of
