International relations expert, economist, politician and statesman, deputy, Foreign Affairs Minister of Turkish Republic. He was born in Alanya district, Antalya on February 5, 1968. He graduated from Ankara University, Faculty of Political Sciences, Department of International Relations (1988). He completed his masters in New York Long Island University in the field of Economy (1991) and "European Union Expertise Program" in Ankara University European Community Research and Application Center (1993). He started with his doctoral studies at Bilkent University, Department of International Relations (1993) as special students; and attended to London School of Economics (LSE) between 1993 and 1995 with a Jean Monnet scholarship. He was the President of Turish Students' Association at the same university. He worked at the Ministry of Environment on behalf of United Nations Development Program (UNDP).

He was the Vice President of European Council Parliamentary Members between 2003-2014, The President of Turkish Delegation, President of Migration, Refugees and Population Committee, President of Migration Sub Committee, President of Tourism Development Sub Committee, member of various committees such as Supervision, Economic Works and Development, Legal Issues and Human Rights, Political Issues and Democracy. He was also European Democratic Group Vice President and Spokesperson.

He became the first Turkish parliamentary member elected as European Council Parliamentary Members Committee between 2010 and 2012. He received the title of AKPM Honorary President on April 7, 2014. He represented AKPM in Venice Committee between the dates January 27,2012- January 31, 2014. Along with his duties at AKPM; he was the President of Turkish Delegation in European Security and Defense Assembly (Western European Union Assembly) between the years 2007-2010. He was the Minister of European Union and Chief Negotiator between December 26, 2013 and August 29, 2014.

Mevlut Cavusoglu is among the founding members of JDP and he was elected as Antalya Deputy of JDP in 22nd, 23rd, 24th, 25th and 26th terms, and he participated in legislation at TGNA. Between January-December 2013, he was the Vice President of JDP Liable from Foreign Relations. He is the member of JDP Central Decision and Executive Board Member since September 2012. He was the Interparliementary Friendship Group President for Turkey-USA and Turkey-Japan at TGNA.

He was appointed as the Minister of European Union as a result of cabinet revision dated December 25, 2013. He was the Foreign Affairs Minister of 62nd Government of Turkish Republic between the dates August 29, 2014- August 30, 2015. He was re-assigned as the Foreign Affairs Minister of 64th Turkish Government on November 24, 2015. Cavusoglu speaks English, German and Japanese; he is married and father of one child.
