Director and
producer. Born in 14 October 1944, İskeçe/Greece.
He started his education in İskeçe. When he won the scholarship in 1956; he
moved to Turkey and studied at Istanbul Erkek High School. His movies are
generally characterized by the quick editing that was the influence of his
position as editor.
He worked as
assistant director for the first time in Mehmet Aslan’s “Hakanların
Savaşı” in 1968. After he became professional in the
sector in time; he worked with famous directors like Remzi Jöntürk, Atıf
Yılmaz, Yılmaz Güney, Natuk Baytan and Osman Seden. In 1974, due to Yılmaz Güney’s
arrest on the first days of the shootings; he assumed the directorship of the
movie, Endişe. He won “The Best
Director Award” in 12th Antalya Altın Portakal Film Festival with
his debut. Winning the Golden Palm in Cannes Film Festival for “Yol” of which script was written by the
famous Turkish director Yılmaz Güney; he achieved great success.
As one of
the most productive directors of the Turkish cinema, Gören took place in small
roles in his own movies. He generally made movies with the understanding of social reality and he also made
blockbusters and documentaries. He focused on the city life and the
relationship of the human and nature in his movies.
