Artist, writer (B. 31 September 1925, Göçbeyli
/ Bergama / Izmir – D. 16 February 2005, Izmir). He completed his primary and
secondary education in Izmir.
He began to study in State Fine arts academy Art Department
in 1944. He took lessons from Cemal Tollu for six years in this school. He
graduated in 1950 and worked as art teacher in Afyon and Izmir Karşıyaka. He
worked in Izmir Education Institute between 1959-78 years. He contributed to
the opening of art department. He went to Paris
in 1962 and attended to Artist Henri Goetz’s Workshop. He opened almost fifty
solo exhibitions. Many of his works are in museums, in domestic and foreign
collections. There is a Şeref Bigalı Art Gallery
in Ankara, he
received State Art Grand Prize in 1986, later he received Turkey Is Bank Grand
Art Prize. His comprehensive book Resim Sanatı was published in 1976 for the first time and became a significant work for
plastic arts in our country. He was buried in Biga (Çanakkale).
