He was retired in 1881 and dedicated himself to reading and writing and especially writing his history. But in 1888, Abdülhamid the Second gave him the Rumelia Governor rank and he was assigned as Muş Lieutenant Governor again. After this, he was assigned as Mardin Lieutenant Governor and he passed away in line of duty.
Hıstory: Mir’at-ül İber (general history, 10 volumes, 9 volumes were printed, the final volume is a handwritten manuscript and it was presented as a gift by his sons to the Museum Library).
