Short story and novel writer (b. 1935 İstanbul - 21 Februry 2021, Stockhholm / Sweden). He graduated from Kabataş High School
for Boys (1953) and İstanbul
University, Faculty of
Law (1959). He went to France
and studied as an assistant at the Paris Faculty of Law for a year. Upon returning
to Turkey,
he became an assistant at the faculty from which he graduated and then worked
as a lawyer, but his job was terminated due to his political acts. He was
arrested during the 12 September period. Then he went to Sweden. A legal investigation was
started due to the articles he published in Sweden. He was stripped of his
nationality because he didn’t obey the call to return to Turkey (1986). He later returned to
Turkey
voluntarily and was arrested (1989).
The short stories he wrote with the influence of existentialism appeared
in the reviews Mavi, a, Pazar Postası, Yeni Ufuklar and Türk Dili.
At first his poems appeared in the review Türk Dili. He won the 1964
Turkish Language Association Short Story Award with his book Soluma
(Breathing), the 1989 Sait Faik Short Story Award with his book Stockholm Hikâyeleri (Short Stories Of
Stockholm) and the 1990 Orhan Kemal Award with his book Bir Yaz Mevsimi Romansı (A Summer Romance).
