Historian
(b. 18 December 1925, İstanbul - 1 August 2001, İstanbul). He graduated from
Haydarpaşa High School (1943) and İstanbul University, Faculty of Literature,
Department of History (1948). After working in İstanbul Office of Archive of
Prime Ministry (1949-51), he worked as history teacher in Mardin High School
(1952-54), then he was sent to the United States by scholarship (1955)
After
returning to Turkey in the same year and working as teacher in Ankara, he went
to German for PhD passing the examination (1957). In 1962, he completed his PhD
and was appointed as assistant to the Chair of History of Institutions and
Civilizations of Ottomans. He became assistant professor in 1962, professor in
Hacettepe University, Faculty of Social and Administrative Sciences that he
transferred in 1973. After working as
lecturer in İstanbul University, Faculty of Literature between 1977 and 1982,
he became the General Director of Archive of Prime Ministry in 1979. Then he
served as the director of Boğaziçi University, Atatürk Institute for Modern
Turkish History (1982-83), as the lecturer in the Departments of History of
İnönü University, Faculty of Science.
After
retirement, he continued serving in Uludağ University, Department of History
(1992-2001) and Gebze High Institute of Technology, Department of National
Security and Strategy (2000-01). His 200 articles were published in the reviews
Belleten, Tarih Dergisi, GüneyDoğu Avrupa
Araştırmaları, Türk Kültürü, Tarih Enstitüsü, Osmanlı Araştırmaları and in the collobrative studies.
