Islamic intellectual (b. 1887, Balıkesir - d. 1964, İstanbul). He received primary and secondary education in Balıkesir. He also learned the Islamic sciences, Arabic and Persian in Balıkesir at the Sufi Theology School. He also wrote for the reviews Nasihat, Balıkesir and Ses published in Balıkesir.
He was once arrested for some
of his articles. He supported the National Struggle not only with his writing
but also in his actions in resisting the establishment. He was among the first
members of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey as a parliamentary deputy for
Balıkesir. Later, he resumed his job as a literature teacher and writer in his
hometown. He retired in 1928. Hasan Basri who wrote under the pen names Siretî
and Nasuhî Dede was especially known for his studies on the interpretation of
the Koran.
