Poet, storywriter (b. 15 August 1952, Samsun).
Her original name is Aliye Dündar and her maiden name was Yavuz. After she
graduated from Namık Kemal Elementary School and 19 Mayıs High School, she
continued her education at Teacher Training School and became a teacher. After she
graduated from the Atatürk Institute of Education she completed her graduate
education at the Open Education Faculty. She worked as a Turkish and literature
teacher at various schools in Turkey and Germany (1971-79). She became the İstanbul
representative of Bilgi Publications. She was the General Secretary of the
Writers Syndicate of Turkey and the Secretary of the Autonomous Council of Art
for a time and is a member of the PEN Writers Association.
Her first
work was published in a column called Yaşadıkça in the newspaper Demokrat Canik in Samsun and her first poem was
published in the review Şiir-lik in March 1966. Her essays and stories
were published periodically (1968-1973) in the newspapers Demokrat Canik and Son
Posta in Samsun and in
reviews such as Varlık,
Gösteri, Cumhuriyet Dergi,
Milliyet Sanat, Şiirlik, Karşı Edebiyat and Adam Öykü in subsequent years. She came first in
the story category of the Art Contest ‘93 held by Etos’s Universal Culture
House. She won the 1966 Orhan Kemal Story Award and the 1998 Sabahattin Ali
Short Story Award and came third in the 1997 Haldun Taner Short Story Award
with her book Diş İzleri (Teeth Marks). She shared the 2002
Yunus Nadi Short Story Award with M. Sadık Aslankara with her book Vahşi Kelebek (The Wild Butterfly)
