Vivet Kanetti

Writer, translator and journalist (B. 1956, Istanbul ).  ). She is the daughter of a family of Jewish origin. She was married to the sculptor Ömer Uluç and she lived in many different places in Istanbul. She also used the nickname E. Emine in her novels. She worked as a vendor, a telesales person, a translator, an actress in theaters and cinema movies, a teacher, a broadcaster, an ergo-therapist in a mental institution and a reporter. She used the signature of Viver Kanetti in her writings in the newspaper of Yeni Yüzyıl, in the weekly magazine Aktüel, in her book Hissesiz Kıssalarwhere these writings were accumulated and also in the translations she performed. The writer told that she had published her first novels with the name E. Emine in order to prevent them to be located in the shelves of foreign writers. The preface of her fourth novel Turuncu Kayık was signed by Vivet Kanetti. Vivet Kanetti and E. Emine changed their places in the second edition.

Her writings were mostly published in the newspapers Güneş and Yeni Yüzyıl and the magazines Aktüel, Öküz, Aman, Virgül and Karizma. She worked as a columnist in the internet publication Gazeteport news portal. Besides, she accomplished the translations of the children’s books of E. Ajar, R.V. Pilhes, J.P. Imbrohori, J.M. Verges and R. Goscinny. Her first novel Bizans Sohbetleri that she wrote with the name of E. Emine was published in 1988. This book was followed by the novels named Kurabiye Saatinde (1992), Kırık Zarlar (1997) and Turuncu Kayık (2000).

She accumulated a limited anthology created from her newspaper writings in a book named Hissesiz Kısalar (1998). In the year of 2002, she published her book named Koş Süreyya Koş Şampiyon Olacağız, in which the phenomenon of woman presented by the media and within the media was discussed. After this book, her scenario named Prenslerin Adası, a story of Büyükada, was published as a book. Her final novel Bana Modern Türk’ün Tarifini Yapabilir misin Kaan came onto the market in the year 2009. Her book named Kız Ayakları, in which she accumulated her literature and art writings, was published in the year 2010. Her first novel that she wrote and put aside in the beginning of her mid-twenties was published for the first time in the year 2011 with the name of Huysuzun Teki.

Vivet Kanetti made translations from Boris Vian, Emile Ajar, Michel Ragon, Jacques Verges, Colette and from many other writers. She translated the entire series of Petit Nicolas (Little Nicholas) to Turkish.
