Journalist and writer (b. 20 July 1941, Bursa). He graduated from İstanbul University, Faculty of Law in 1964. He
completed his master’s in 1971. He worked as an assistant between 1969 and 1974
and in 1974 he completed his PhD at Indiana
University. He has also
worked as an advisor at the Turkish Radio and Television Corporation
(1974-1975); as an assistant editor-in-chief (1975-1976); as an assistant
professor at Cleveland State University (1977-1981); as an assistant at
Maryland University (1981-1983); as a editor-in-chief for the review Nokta (1983-1985; as a writer on the
newspapers Hürriyet and Gazete; as the Chairman of the Hürriyet
Research Board; as an advisor on the newspaper Dateline Turkey and as a columnist on the newspapers Güneş and Cumhuriyet. Currently he works as editor and coordinator of the
Arena TV Program and as the Channel D News Coordinator. He received
scholarships from the American Field Service in 1958 and UNESCO in 1968. He won
the Turkey Journalists Association Journalist of the Year Award in 1986 and the
Journalist of the Year Contemporary Writing Award in 1989. In addition, in 1993
he wrote a translation of Medya ve
Demokrasi (Media and Democracy) and has written many scientific and daily
articles in English and Turkish about mass communication, social change and
cultural issues.
