Cemal Edhem Yeşil

Writer (b. 1900 – d. 27 November 1977). He was the son of Dr. Commander Edhem Hakkı Bey who died in Caucasus Front in World War I. He was taken into army when he was in 11th grade of İstanbul High School. He entered into School of Politics in October after having passed the exam that was held in 1918 while he was serving in army as a reserve conscript officer. He graduated from School of Politics and came to Ankara with his friends to participate in the National Struggle. He was appointed to the Turkish Grand National Assembly Government, Ministry of Finance, General Directorate of Accountant as a assistant clerk of the department. After various posts as a civil servant, he became a Financial Assistant Inspector when he passed the exam that was held in April 1923. He was sent to Paris for one year to undergo training of inspectorship at France Ministry of Finance. He passed the competence exam in 1925 and he was promoted to fourth Class Inspectorship. He worked as a third, second and first class financial inspectorship until 1936. Afterwards he became the general director of Ministry of Finance Budget and Finance Control, Ministry of Finance Undersecretary in 1938, Prime Ministers Undersecretary in 1942 and Presidency Undersecretary in 1947. He was appointed to Kabul Ambassadorship in 1951 and Budapest Ambassadorship in 1956. He became Ministry of Foreign Affairs Legal Adviser in 1960 and he was appointed to Warsaw Ambassadorship in 1962. He was at this post when he retired in July 1965.

He married in 1956. He has a daughter and a son. He was interested in photographing and cinema. His poetry and roba’is were published in the reviews, mainly in Varlık and Hisar.
