Novelist (b. 15 August 1938, Antakya).
She used the pen name Atgen Berel in her early works. She attended Antakya High
School and graduated from Ankara University, Faculty of Political Sciences
(1960). She worked at the Ministry of the Interior and the Fund for Pensioners.
Her first short stories and articles
were published in the review Özgür İnsan
(1976). Her later works appeared in the reviews Türk Dili, Sanat Olayı and Gösteri.
Her novel Kaçış (Escape) was
serialized in the newspaper Milliyet.
She came second at the short story competition held at the 16th
Antalya Festival. She also received the Madaralı Novel Award in 1986 with Bir Göçmen Kuştu O (It was a Migrant
Bird), the Mülkiye Society Rüştü Koray Award in 1987 with Hoşça Kal Umut (Goodbye Hope), the Sait Faik Short Story Award in
1991 with her book Gitme Triyandafilis
(Don’t Go, Triandaphilis) and the Yunus Nadi Short Story Award with Mekruh Kadınlar Mezarlığı (Graveyard of
Unlawful Women).
