Story and novel author, poet. He was born in Salihli / Manisa in 1951. He went to school and learned literacy. He worked at several jobs in Turkey. He went to the Germany in 1972 workers’ migration. After working at different places, he has established his own work. He wrote stories, novels and poems. Several of his books were published in Turkey and Germany.

Habib Bektaş has examined the tragic stories of the people who went to Germany for employment and stuck in the boundaries of their small world and the depressed people inside the loneliness of the world they are alien with in some novels and stories. He had a warm and sincere approach to Guest Workers and he also has successfully mentioned the problems and depressions of Germans who were judgmental to the guest workers.

He received the 1990 Milliyet Publishers Novel Prize with his novel Hamriyanım; 1997 Inkilap Publishers Novel Prize with his novel Gölge Kokusu; and the 2000 Linguistic Association Ömer Asım Aksoy Prize with his novel Cennetin Arka Bahçesi. His novel named Eylül Fırtınası was directed as a film by Atıf Yılmaz.
