Historian (b. 1908, Doyran /
Thessalonica / Greece – d. 8 June 1985,
Ankara). After she finished Bursa Teacher Training School for Women in 1924,
she met with Atatürk while she was teaching in İzmir, where she first taught,
and this meeting was the turning point in her life. She was sent to Lausanne by
Atatürk in 1925, to learn French. In her return, she was appointed to the
Ankara Music Teacher Training School as a teacher in
In 1942, she became assistant
professor and in 1950, professor at the Faculty of Language, History and
Geography. In various universities and at the Turkish Military Academy she gave
lessons on the Republic of Turkey and the History of Revolution. She was a
member of the National Committee of UNESCO, the European Culture Association,
the Turkish Language Association and the Turkish Historical Society. She
introduced revolution history related to women. In the first years of the
Republic, she did research connected to the Turkish History thesis that Atatürk
also supported.
