Writer (b. 14 March 1938, Baku / Azerbaijan). His full name is Anar Rızayev. In his works, he used only the name Anar. He was one from the generation of city writers of contemporary Azerbaijan literature. His father is the famous poet of Azerbaijan, Resul Rıza, who wrote by free meter (1910-81); and again his mother was one of the famous poets Nigâr Refibeyli (1913-1981). He graduated from Azerbaijan State University, Faculty of Language and Literature (1960). He took scenario and directorship master education in Moscow. He worked as a researcher in Nizami Literature Museum and as an editor and branch director in State Television Radio Corporation. Anar, who has been working as the chairman of Azerbaijan Writers’ Association for fifteen years, is a deputy at the Azerbaijan Parliament at the same time, and is the commission head of Azerbaijan-Turkey Commission for Fraternity.

As well as his stories since 1960, his plays, novels, essays and articles were translated into more than thirty languages. He got the title of State Artist in 1975 and in 1980 he got the State Award. He was promoted as the editor of the fine arts periodical called Gobustan in 1968. At present, he is the head writer of this periodical. In May 2003, a symposium on his works and personality as a man of literature was organized by Turkic World Literature and Art Foundation and it was called “The Works of Anar, One of the Representatives of Contemporary Turkish World Literature, and Glances to Art World”. He participated in 5th International Poetry Feast that was organized by Turkish Writers’ Association in Strasbourg (France) in 2003.
