Composer, tunesmith (B. 1881, ? – D. 16 February 1934, Edremit). Since his father was a sea captain in Mecidiye cruiser he was known as “Kaptanzâde”. After working for a while as customs broker, he then made a living by playing the piano and nay in casinos and show halls. He composed operettas, songs, tangos, phantasies, foxtrots and marches.

In all of his works he used Turkish maqams. In his operettas and some phantasies he tried polyphony. Ali Rıza Bey was rather known with his operettas and he also acted in his works titled Macun Okkası and İstanbul Efendisi. He married Cabir Vada’s daughter Hikmet Hanım on the 8th of June 1923 and they did not have any children. He passed away in Edremit where he went to hold a concert after a heart stroke. The grave of the composer which was about to disappear was found in the year 2009.

He is most famous with his songs “Yıldızların altında”, “Gel gitme kalmasın gözüm yollarda”, “Hasta kalbimde yanan derdim”,  “Denizde akşam” and “Efem”.
