Poet and
writer (B. 19 January 1946, Bahçekaya village / Maçka / Trabzon). He graduated
from Trabzon High School (1964), Trabzon Fatih Institute of Education (1967)
and the Anatolian University, Open University Faculty (1992). He started as a
primary school teacher in
Hacılar Village and continued to teach Turkish and literature at Beşikdüzü,
Hamsiköy, Cumhuriyet Secondary Schools and Mamak (Ankara) Yavuz Sultan Selim
Primary School. Later he lectured at Bilkent University, Faculty of
Humanitarian Sciences and Literature.
His first poem
was published in the newspaper Son Haber (Trabzon) on 26 October 1966.
He published his other poems in reviews published in Yugoslavia and Germany as
well as the journal Yansıma, Güney, Türkiye Yazıları, Dönemeç, Somut, Yaba,
Temmuz, Abece, Çerçeve, Kuzeysu, Kıyı, Dize, Kiraz, etc. He managed Kıyı
and Bilkent 4 Mevsim journals. He collected the Nevzat Üstün Poetry
Achievement Award in 1981 and received an honourable mention at the Ömer Faruk
Toprak Poetry Award Contest in 1982. He collected the İstanbul Radio Short
Story Award of the radio program Gecenin İçinden in 1989, the Kökten
Publishing House Short Story Award in 1991, the Unpublished Poetry Book Award
at the Yunus Nadi Award Contest in 1993, the Cevdet Kudret Literature Award in
1998, the Trabzon Journalists Association Art of the Year Award in 2002, the
Ceyhun Atuf Kansu Poetry Award with his work, Sözümüz Vardı (We Had A
Promise) and the Sabahattin Sağıroğlu Services to Trabzon Award in 2002. He is
a member of the Turkish Authors Association, Language Society, the PEN Writers
Association and the Union of Education, Science and Culture Workers. His name
was given to a street in Yuvaca Village near Söke.
