Theatre and
cinema actor, theatre director. He was born on the 2nd of
November 1941 in Istanbul. His mother is Nadide Hanım, his father Mustafa
Bey. He was educated at Pertevniyal High School. Later he studied in
Istanbul University Faculty of Law and Faculty of Literature.
Akpınar appeared
on the stage for the first time during his secondary education and worked in
various amateur groups in those years. He acted in plays titled Yeşil
Sahnede İşler Karıştı, On Küçük Yaramaz and Yağmurcu.
He managed MTTB Birlik Theatre and acted in plays of Karaların
Memetleri, Kulaktan Kulağa and Antigone.
Akpınar acted in his first professional play Gözlerimi Kaparım Vazifemi
Yaparım in Ulvi Uraz Theatre in 1964, as well as in Ben
Devletim and Hababam Sınıfı plays at the same
theatre. He established a group in Gen-Ar Theatre together with Zeki Alasya in
1966. He established Devekuşu Cabaret which is the first cabaret theatre of our
country in 1967, under the leadership of Haldun Taner, together with Ahmet
Gülhan and Zeki Alasya . The group focused on social and political satire in
its plays.
Akpınar, as one
of the important representatives of cabaret genre in Turkey, managed to
draw a wide mass of audience to his plays with his unique style. He served in
all plays of Devekuşu Cabaret as an actor; and directed some of them. In the
same time he served as the administrative manager of Devekuşu Cabaret.
His movie
career started with the movie Tatlı Dillim in 1972. The artist
who appeared in many movies established a duo with Zeki Alasya and played roles
with social messages in numerous plays, movies and television programs for
years. After he acted in the movie Propaganda in 1999 which
was directed by Sinan Çetin he declared that he would play different roles and
tried dramatic acting.
