Film director, screenwriter, producer, and actor (b..  14 March 1920 in Istanbul - d. 16 March 2015, Muğla). He received education from Istanbul Medical Faculty for a while. He left the university in third-grade and played in Beşiktaş football team. He worked in the public sector between the years 1942-46. By taking part as an actor he started his film career in 1931 with the film Damga that was begun to be produced by Seyfi Havaeri and continued by Lütfi Akad. Ün, who began producing by establishing Yakut Film with Arşavir Alyanak in 1931 and began directing by making Yetim Yavrular in 1954, also kept acting along with producing and directing.

The first films that he directed were ordinary melodramas, which have characteristics of Gürses Okulu. Films of this period, which were primitive in terms of narration and film techniques and also which were contextually not different than the films that were made by that time, can be considered as trials for Ün on the way of understanding the language and technique of cinema. Memduh Ün made the film Üç Arkadaş, the most mentioned film in his filmography in 1958. This film, which discusses solidarity, mutual love and optimisms that are impossible to happen all together in an artificial sentimentality pattern focused on the little people of the big city, brought the director a great fame. After Ateşten Damla, which is about Liberation War, he made the film Ayşecik repeating the sentimentality in Üç Arkadaş but using a small child pattern this time in 1980. Based on the play Tahta Çanaklar by Edmund Morris he translated Kırık Çanaklar at the same year. Narrating people from real life on the silver screen as they are instead of the symbolic typecasting in his other films, and discussing solidarity between different generations in a way that is far away from melodrama elements made Kırık Çanaklar one of the successful works both of Ün and Turkish cinema. After 1963, Ün made melodramas, comedies, detective films and adaptations of film, novel, and play of foreign origin for commercial purposes as required by production and directing. He gave applied montage courses in Mimar Sinan University beginning from 1994.

Ün, who taught some significant masters such as Halit Refiğ, Feyzi Tuna, Ülkü Erakalın and Tunç Başaran, by making contributions to the cinema with the films he made in different areas and also by bringing these significant names in Turkish cinema, had a career that will not be replaced easily. He won Best Director Award for the film named Kırık Çanaklar at Turkish Film Contest in 1961. He won Best Director Award for the second time for the film named Namusum İçin at 3rd Antalya Film Festival in 1966. He received best film editing for Bütün Kapılar Kapalıydı that he made in 1990 as well as jury special award at Antalya Film Festival. He received Lifetime Honorary Award at Antalya Film Festival in 1998.
