Playwright and translator (b. 2 July 1925, İzmir - D. 12 August 2019, Istanbul). She has used the pen name Sevgi Batur. She is the daughter of Mr. Mehmet Sırrı (Sanlı) who was the owner and editor-in-chief of Sadâyı Hak and Halkın Sesi newspapers. She graduated from the American College for Girls (1945) and İstanbul University, Faculty of Literature, Department of English Philology (1950). She worked as head dramaturge at Ankara State Theater (1956-76) and as an English announcer at Ankara Radio. She has been a translator and theater critic in İstanbul since 1976. She is the member of the Turkish Language Association, the Writers Syndicate of Turkey, the PEN Association of Writers, the Theater Writers Union and the International Theater Critics Union.

Her critiques have been published in Cumhuriyet newspaper and Gösteri review. Her first play Dilsizlerin Dili (Language of Mutes) was staged at İstanbul City Theater (1950). Her other plays have been staged in State Theaters, İstanbul City Theaters and private theaters. She won the 1963 Essay Competition Award given by Cumhuriyet newspaper with her essay Bilimsel İnsancılık (Scientific Humanism), the Ankara Art Appreciation Association 1972-73 and 1973-74 awards with her translations Küçük Tilkiler (Little Foxes) and Bu Hesapta Yoktu (This Wasn’t Part of The Plan), the 1981 Avni Dilligil award, the 1981 Ankara Art Appreciation Association award and the 1993 Best Critic Award given by the Ministry of Culture with her translation Rita (Rita). In the Adaptation Competition of the Yunus Emre Culture Center organized by the Municipality of Bakırköy she won the Grand Award with Sinekli Bakkal (Fly-infested Grocery Store) adaptation.
