Economist and writer (b. 14
February 1927, İstanbul) He graduated from İstanbul University, School of
Economics, received his PhD at the Paris Faculty of Economics (1955) and became
an associate professor in 1958. He became a professor at İstanbul University,
School of Economics in 1977. He is still an academician at Boğaziçi University,
Faculty of Economics and Chief of the Department of Economic Theory and History
of Economic Thought.
He has given lectures as a
guest professor at various universities. He managed the first 17 issues of the
review Toplum ve Bilim. He is known for his research Osmanlı
Toplumu ve Asya Üretim Tarzı (Ottoman Society and the
Asiatic Mode of Production)
