Poet and playwright
(b. 1906, Azerbaijan-d. 1956). He graduated from Kazak Teacher Training High
School (1924) and Azerbaijan
State Institute of Science and Research (1931). He worked as teacher in Kazak
and Ganca. He served as authorized clerk (1934-37) and president (1941-48) of
the Writers Union of Azerbaijan, president of Azerbaijan Association of
Civilized Relations Between Foreign Countries, vice-president of Azerbaijan
Soviet Socialist Republic Academy of Science and Research (1954-56).
He is one of the
famous representatives of contemporary Azerbaijan literature. He began to write
in 1926. His first poem (Mavi Göl-Blue Lake) was
published in the newspaper Genç
İşçi He attracted the attention of literary milieus and wide-reader
community with Vurgunun Sesi (Sound
of Love) between 1920 and 1930. His poems Şairin
Andı (Swearing of Poet) and Nisan (April)
which were written in that time has social contents. After Soviet Revolution,
he gained a big role in Azerbaijan Turkish poetry with Hüseyin Cavid. He was
renowned with his plays as well as his poems. He used metrics and syllable
meter in his poems besides new poetry forms. His name was given to a theatre
hall and a street in Baku. He received the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics
State Award (1941-42)
