Islamic scientist (b. 1920 Sarayönü / Konya - d. 25 December 2004,
İstanbul). He was originally from Erikbağı village, in Adilcevaz, in Bitlis,
his family was from the Haydaran tribe. He left his family in his eleven years
for education. He studied grammar near Molla Zübeyr, in Purkaşin Village, in
Bulanık, in Muş. Then he continued his education in Resulan and Koğnak
Villages. He went to Güroymak district of Bitlis in 1934. He entered the
Madrasah Muslim Theology School of Şeyh Abdurrahman Et-Thahi (d. 1886) who was
from the famous sheikhs of Nakşibendi*-Halidi tarikat*. In that period, the
Madrasah Muslim Theology School was managed by Şeyh Masum (d. 1971), the
grandson of Şeyh Abdurrahman Et-Tarihi. He studied in this Madrasah Muslim Theology
School near by Şeyh Takiyuddin (1968) and Molla Abdülbaki.
Then, he continued the Madrasah Muslim Theology School which was under
Norşin Madrasah Muslim Theology School in Yukarı Koyunlu Village. He studied
near by Şeyh Alauddin Efendi (d. 1949), the owner of the Madrasah and the son
of Şeyh Fethullah El-Verkanisi (d. 1899), and his son Mazhar Efendi (d. 1949)
and he entered the Nakşibendi* sect by taking the advice of Şeyh Alauddin
Efendi. After that, he completed his education near by Molla Muhyiddin Efendi
(d. 1988) in Havil Village, in Baykan. After returning to Norşin, he continued
teaching and training students.
He met with Bediüzzaman Said Nursi and began corresponding with him in
1945. In 1952, Yüksel visited him in Emirdağ for some times. Şeyh Masum Efendi
had chosen him as groom.
He served as mufti, but he resigned from his duty and returned to
Norşin, continued to teach. He came to İstanbul in 1963. During this period
that he travelled between İstanbul and his city, he began to write articles in
weekly newspaper Yeni İstiklâl. In 1968, he was appointed as İstanbul
Centeral Preacher by the Department of Religious Affairs. He began to give
Explanation of Koran lectures in Advanced Islam Institute and in İstanbul
Office of Mufti. He continued to write for daily newspaper Bugün. In 1972, He was sent to the court because of having Risale-i Nur
Külliyatı (The Works of Nur Pamphlets) in his house. He advised
different books about style, canon law, explanation of Koran, words of Prophet
Mohammad, poems for Prophet Mohammad and grammar to his students. His articles
were published in the newspapers Yeni
İstiklâl (1961-66), Bugün
(1966-1971), Babıalide Sabah, Ufuk, Büyük
Gazete (weekly, 1976-1980), Yeni
Asya, Millî Gazete and in the
monthly reviews Hilâl (Salih
Özcan’s), İmza (1989-1994), Girişim.
He is still staying in the Fatih neighborhood
of İstanbul. His son Metin Yüksel who was one of the leaders of Raider Youth,
was killed by terrorist before the 12 September period. His other son, writer
Edip Yüksel settled in the United States, and his third son Müfid Yüksel is
known by his scientific and literary works.
