Writer (b. 1943, Kula / Manisa). She attended the
İstanbul High School for Girls and graduated from İstanbul University, Faculty
of Literature, Department of Turkish Language and Literature (1966). She worked
as a teacher of Turkish at Beyoğlu Bulgar and Dadyan Armenian Elementary
Schools (1966-70), assistant-manager at National Education Publishing House
(1975-76) and as the manager of Collection of Prints, Manuscripts and Paintings
(1976). Later on, she edited subsidiary books for elementary and high school
students.
Embarking
on literature with poems and plays she wrote at high school, Sabahat Emir
published her first short story book in her years at the university. Her short
stories and essays appeared in the reviews Hisar, Türk
Edebiyatı, Varlık and Çağrı. She received the Foundation for Turkish National
Culture Jury’s Special Award in 1979 with her study titled Cenupta Türkmen
Oymakları (Turkish Tribes in South).
