Linguist (b. 1943, İzmir). He completed his primary and secondary education in İzmir. He graduated from İstanbul University, Faculty of Literature, Department of Turkish Language and Literature (1967). In the same year he entered Atatürk University, Faculty of Science and Literature as an assistant. He received his PhD with the thesis Kars İli Ağızları-Ses Bilgisi (Phonetics of Kars City Accents) in 1971. He continued giving lectures of the Turkish of Turkey and other Turkish dialects at Hacettepe University to where he transferred in 1971. He lived in Seattle, United States (University of Washington) as a visiting researcher for a year (1976- 77). He became an associate professor with his thesis Kudadgu Bilig'de Fiil (The Verb in Kutadgu Bilig) in 1979.He was appointed Chairman of Gazi University, Gazi Faculty of Education, Department of Turkish Language and Literature in 1983.

He was appointed to the Gazi University, Faculty of Science and Literature as a professor in 1989 and he founded the Department of Turkish Language and Literature of the faculty. He was the adviser and scriptwriter of the television 12-part series Altaylar. He was appointed Chairman of Gazi University, Faculty of Science and Literature, Modern Turkish Dialects and Literature in 1992. He was appointed to the Atatürk Advanced Institute of Language and History Language Institute where he was elected a principle member in 1993, as a Deputy Chair in 1993 and Titular Chair in 1995. He is still a professor of Modern Turkish Literature at Hacettepe University. He has written works on Ahmet Bican Ercilasun, the Turkish language, literature and Turkish dialects and accents.
