Short-story writer (b. 18
December 1934, İstanbul). After graduating from Kağıthane 3. Boarding Primary
School (1947), Eyüp Secondary School, İstanbul High School for Boys (1955), he
attended İstanbul University, Faculty of Literature, Department of Turcology
and without completing it (1964), he started to work as journalist. He worked as editor at the newspaper Cumhuriyet
over 20 years (1959-819). He was editor-in chief of the reviews Yazko (1980-84),
Yazko Edebiyat, Yazko Çeviri, Hürriyet Gösteri (1984-86). He served as
secretary general at the Writers Syndicate of Turkey (1974-89). He directed the
culture-art service of the newspaper, Hürriyet since 1984. He
retired working as publishing director
at Hürriyet Foundation Publications since 1986.
His short stories were
published in the reviews, Demet, Onüç, Varlık, Yeditepe, Yeni Düşün, a
(he established with his friends 1954-60), Seçilmiş Hikâyeler and other
reviews for which he worked. He tried to reflect the poetry style of Second New
Movement to short story. He collected Saik Faik Short Story Award twice (in
1964 with his book Sur-The City Wall,
in 1978 with his book, Gözleri Bağlı
Adam-Man whose Eyes are Tied). Özyalçınar who received the 1972 Turkish
Language Association Award with his book, Yağma
(Looting), collected the Progressive Journalist Association Successful
Journalist Award in the Study- Research branch in 1980, 1991 Haldun Taner Short
Story Award with Cambazlar Savaşı Yitirdi
(The Acrobats Lost the War), Turkish Journalists Association Award with his
