Historian (b. 23 March 1945, Kabataş / Ordu). After he
attended primary and secondary school in Gölköy (1959), he worked as a deputy
teacher in Elbey Village (Kabataş) for a year. He
continued his education and attended Ordu
High School (1963) and graduated from Ankara University,
Faculty of Language, History and Geography, Department of History in 1967. He
worked at the Ministry of Education Branch of the Turkish Encyclopedia during
his education. He continued his education and studies on history at Ecoles Pratiques des
Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales ve Université de Paris IV (Sorbonne) in
Paris, France. He completed his doctorate in the field of social history in 1975 and
returned to Turkey.
He was appointed as lecturer at Hacettepe
University, Faculty of
Social and Administrative Sciences, Department of History in 1977. He became
assistant professor in 1982, associate professor in 1983 and professor in 1988.
He
worked as guest lecturer between 1982-1983 at Selçuk University,
Faculty of Science and Literature. In addition to Hacettepe and Selçuk Universities,
he taught graduate, scientific specialty and doctorate classes and worked as
the thesis director at Gazi University, Faculty of Economic and Administrative
Sciences, the Land Warfare School, Gazi University Institute of Social Sciences
and at Ankara University, Institute of the History of
Turkish Revolution. He was chosen as a principle member of Turkish History
Association in 1983.
He
worked as member of the board of directors at Hacettepe University,
Faculty of Literature for three years from 1991 and became the assistant dean
at the same faculty in this period. He was appointed to the position of
Director of the Department of History in this faculty in 1995. In 1988 he was
chosen the member of the board of
directors of Hacettepe University, Institute of Atatürk Principles and
Revolution History and during his duty, he was appointed the director of this
institute on January 10 1996. His duty was renewed for the second third-year
term in 1999. He was the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Professional
Association of Scientific and Literary Work Owners of Turkey between the years
1995-1997. He was chosen as the Director of the Turkish National Committee of
an international organization called “Committeé International des Sciences
Historiques” (International Committee of History Sciences) the center of which
is in Paris. He
was awarded the Turkic Center Ziya Gökalp Science Incentive Award in 1987
(March 28, 1987).
He
has presented communiqués in Turkey
and abroad at national and international scientific meetings. He was the text
writer of the documentary film on Turkish foundations from the time of the
Seljuk Empire to the present, which consisted of five episodes and he also
worked on the fifty-two episode radio program “From East to West”, which was
broadcasted in many languages on the “Voice Radio of Turkey”. He has taken part
in several radio and television programs. He was chosen as a member of the
board of editors of the review Vakıf ve Kültür in 1998 and a member of
the Consultative Committee of the General Directorate of Foundations Research
Center.
His articles have been published in the
