Writer. Born on November 2, 1924 in Istanbul. He
graduated from Ankara University, Faculty of Languages, History and Geography,
Department of Turkish Language and Literature. Then he worked as a teacher at
high schools in Erzurum and Istanbul; and as a lecturer at Necati Bey Education
Institute. He participated in applied studies at Illinois University, USA on
the training of disabled children and general anthropology. He has completed
his doctoral studies in 1968, with the thesis named “Evaluation of Dede Korkut Book With respect to Folklore”.
He participated in Second World Poets Congress
organized in the capital of Chinese Republic, Taiwan (1973). In 1982, he
started to work at Boğaziçi University. He worked as an associate professor of
Folklore in Faculty of Letters and Sciences, Department of Turkish Language and
Literature from 1984 on. He is known with his research on literature and his
translations from several languages.
