Religious scholar, bureaucrat, former president of Religious Affairs
Institution, politician, deputy.
(B. 1927, Konya-). After graduating from Ankara University, Faculty
of Languages, History and Geography, Department of Classical Oriental Languages
(1949); he went to Syria and learned Islamic sciences and Arabic (1949-1951). Upon his return to Turkey, he
was appointed as kalam assistant at the Faculty of Theology. After completing
his doctoral study on Islamic thought, he became the mobile orator of Ankara,
Arabic teacher in Ankara Imam-Hatip School, Ankara Mufti (1962-1964), Religious
Affairs Institution consultant and religious works examination council member,
Higher Council of Religious Affairs members (1966-1972) and as the President of
Religious Affairs Institution (1972-1976).
He was
engaged in politics during Bülent Ecevit term and elected as RPP deputy from
Konya (1977-1980). He was
the State Minister responsible from religious affairs in Bülent Ecevit
governments (June 21- July 21, 1977- January 5, 1978- November 12, 1979). On the 40th Anniversary of
Turkish Religious Affairs Foundation; the "fidelity award" was
provided to Dr. Lutfi Doğan within the context of International Goodness Awards
as he is the founder of Turkish religious Affairs Foundation, former President
of Religious Affairs and Prime Minister Prof. Dr. Ahmet Davutoglu. His work,
Ehli Künnet Kelamında Eş'ari (1960) is the most known work.
