Tezkire* writer (b. 1546, Bursa
- d. 14 March 1607, Rashid Town / Egypt). He was the son of the famous scholar
Kınalızade Ali Çelebi. He studied Islamic canon jurisprudence and Islamic
theology at Madrasah Muslim School. He served as a Muslim judge in Bursa,
Edirne, Halep and Cairo. Although Hasan Çelebi’s poems are seen as weak, he is
known for his work Tezkiretü'ş-Şuârâ
(Biography of Poets) that was presented to Murad II (1586). His tezkire* that
was compiled with examples of many poets’ lives and their works, but without
criticism, is an important work in the history of literature. Hasan Çelebi’s
tezkire*, which has footnotes about Islamic canon jurisprudence and Islamic
theology, was printed by İbrahim Kutluk.
