Novelist and short-story writer (b. 15
April 1945, Bursa). She attended primary and secondary schools in Bursa and
high school in New York. After she graduated from Robert College, she did her
PhD thesis on “Yirminci Yüzyıl
Tiyatrosunda Gerçeklik ve Yanıl–sama” (Reality and Illusion in Twentieth Century Theatre) at Sorbonne
University in France. After working as a dramatist at Ankara State Theatre for
a while (1971-73), she settled in İstanbul and did translations.
Pınar Kür, whose short stories were
published in thee periodicals and newspapers Dost, Cumhuriyet, Yazko-Edebiyat, Gösteri from 1971 became well
known for her novel Yarın Yarın (Tomorrow Tomorrow). This novel, Asılacak Kadın (A Woman To Be Hanged, 1979) and Bitmeyen Aşk (Unending
Love, 1986), which were adapted for the cinema, were banned since they
were regarded as obscene. She won Sait the Faik Short Story Award with Akışı Olmayan Sular (Waters That Flow Nowhere, 1983)
