İbrahim Peçevî, Peçuylu İbrahim Efendi

Historian (b. 1574, Peçoy / Hungary - d. 1649?). His father died when Peçevi was 14, and he was brought up by his uncle Ferhat Paşa the Governor and later by Lala Mustafa Paşa. He joined the army and participated in the conquest of the castles of Estergon (1595) and Eğri (1596). When his guardian Lala Mustafa Paşa died (1606), he went to İstanbul and worked in different posts. He worked as the secretary of official correspondence in the provinces of Eğriboz and İnebahtı and as the treasurer in Diyarbakır (1618), Tokat (1625), Tuna and Anatolia (1631). He retired in 1641 and wrote his history. The famous Peçevî Tarihi (History of Peçevi) was first published in two volumes in 1864-68 and later was simplified by Murat Uz in 1968-69.
