Writer of dictionaries and encyclopedias (b. 1 April 1933, İstanbul).
After he completed his primary education, he completed his secondary education
at the Melkonian Educational Institute in Cyprus (1951). He graduated from the
Department of English Philology at Michigan University in the United States.
While he was doing his military service he taught English at the Ankara
Military Medical Academy, İstanbul Şişli Terakki High School, Saint-Michel
Private French High School and Getronagan High School.
In his youth, he started to work on dictionaries and encyclopedias. He
continued this work with great success and is an expert and a recognized name
in the field of modern Turkish lexicography. He prepared Okyanus Ansiklopedik Türkçe Sözlük (The Ocean Encyclopedic Turkish
Dictionary), which has the most extensive detail on the maintenance, quality
and purity of Turkish (1974). His work is valued at home and abroad. He was
officially congratulated by İsmet İnönü (1966), Cevdet Sunay (1966) and Fahri
Korutürk (1974). After this date, together with his linguistic works, Pars
Tuğlacı concentrated on history research and traveled to more than twenty
countries, doing research at libraries, museums and state archive offices.
His work was published in Cumhuriyet
and Milliyet newspapers and in the
reviews Milliyet Sanat, Tarih ve Toplum and Yıllar Boyu Tarih. He
prepared the first documentary Turkish encyclopedia, which included the years
from 1071 to 1997. In a 1989 local by-election the True Path Party chose him to
be the mayoral candidate of İstanbul’s Adalar District. He was selected as a
member of the International Security and Peace Parliament located in Italy, and
was appointed to the Turkish Embassy (10.03.1990). He has represented Turkey at
a great deal at scientific meetings.
He is a life-long member of the American Biography Institute, the
Brussels Documentation and European Scientific Research Institute, a lifelong
member of the World Literature Academy, the Armenian Philosophy Academy of
Academic Counselors Institute, the Turkish Press Union, the Writers Syndicate
of Turkey and many international scientific organizations. He has received many
awards such as the Select Leadership Prize by the American Biography Institute
(1991), the Extraordinary Professional Achievement Award by the American
Biography Institute (1992), the 20th Century Prize (1997) and the Da Vinci
Award (2004).
