Poet and writer (b. July 1950, Rize - d. 16 November 2009,
İstanbul). He attended primary and secondary school and received private
education on religion. After working as a lecturer in courses on the Holy
Koran, he entered İstanbul University, Faculty of Economics in 1970. In 1972 he
left the faculty and started as a journalist on the newspaper Babıâli'de Sabah. He entered the Atatürk
Institute of Education in 1973 and graduated in 1976. After working as a
teacher of literature for a short time, he resumed his career as a journalist.
His poems and
satires have been published in the reviews
Türk Edebiyatı and Boğaziçi from
1980. Writer of many scripts, Mete’s numerous works have been filmed for the
cinema. One of his works, Bizim Ev
(Our Home), was made into a television series in 1990. Çizme (Boots) was filmed in 1991 and received the Writers Union of
Turkey Best Screenplay Award in 1992. Mete has been the writer of many other
scripts such as Bizim Yunus (Our
Yunus), Köstekli Saat (Hobbled
Watch), Veysel Karani (Veysel Karani), Ahmed Bedevi (Ahmed Bedevi) and Evlere Şenlik (Full of Joy) and has
worked on many documentaries as scenarist and text writer. The television
series Deli Yürek (Crazy Heart) that
he wrote was broadcast in 2000 and attracted a lot of attention. He received
the Writers Union of Turkey Press/Anecdote Award in 2003.
