Storywriter and novelist (b.
1947, Savcılı Ebeyit village / Kaman / Kırşehir). He attended Ankara Atatürk
High School (1966) and graduated from Ankara University, Faculty of Language,
History and Geography (1970). His graduate thesis was Türk Romanında Yöre
Dili (Regional Language in the
Turkish Novel). He worked as a lecturer at Ankara University, Faculty
of Language, History and Geography, Department of Turkish Language and
Literature. He is still the chairman of the department.
His articles have been
published in the newspapers Vatan and Barış, in the reviews Varlık, Gösteri, Türk
Dili, Virgül, E, Adam Öykü, Eğitim ve Bilim and in the annals Varlık. He collected the Lions Jury’s
Special Award in 1979 with Çürük Kapı (Flimsy Door), the Mehmet Ali Yalçın Novel Award in 1981 with Toprak
Kovgunları (Raid on the Land), the Sıtkı Dost Children’s Literature Award
in 1987 with Yitik Kuzular
(Lost Lambs) and the PEN Orhan Kemal Story Achievement Award in 1995 with Bir
Şarkıyı Dinlerken (Listening to a Song). His play Kayıp Kuzu (The
Lost Lamb) was staged at the Ankara Public Theatre. He is a member of the Arts
Foundation and the Turkish Authors Association.
